Review By Talea "Patterns"
Starring: Van Heflin, Ed Begley, Sr., Everett Sloane, Beatrice Straight
Fred Staples (Van Heflin) has just moved to New York in anticipation of starting his new job in a big corporate office. Leaving small town Ohio behind, he finds the fast paced lifestyle a bit tough to get used to. His first day on the job brings mixed feelings as there seems to be a strange undercurrent of tension in the air. He is introduced to the other staff members including Mr. William Briggs (Ed Begley, Sr.), a veteran of the company now in the vice-president position. They hit if off right away but it's evident that Briggs has some apprehensions. Especially when is long time personal secretary is transferred to the new Mr. Staples. The first corporate meeting does not progress so well either. Walter Ramsey (Everett Sloane), the company president/owner appears to be less that enchanted with Briggs. There is a major disagreement over a report causing tempers to flare and voices to be raised necessitating that the meeting to adjourned.

As Staples relates the events of the day to his wife Nancy (Beatrice Straight), he cannot shake the odd atmosphere of the office. This is only a premonition of things to come. Time reveals that the ruthless Mr. Ramsey has it in for the aging Mr. Briggs and Staples is being groomed to take his place.
