Adapted from a novel by Charlotte Armstrong, THE BREACH (la Rupture) is a movie written and directed by Claude Chabrol in 1970.

Charles Régnier, under the influence of drugs, attacks his wife Hélène and their son. Hélène brings the child to the hospital and moves into a guest house while the wealthy industrial Ludovic Régnier, Charles's father, is already thinking about a way to obtain his grandson.

Ludovic Régnier hires Jean-Pierre Cassel to whom he promises a job as a director if he manages to find evidence against Hélène that would discredit her in front of the judge. So Cassel also moves into the guest house and imagines a machiavelic scheme in order to implicate Hélène in a fraud. But everything goes wrong and the infortunate Cassel must improvize a new plan.
