| Jim Deakins and Boone Caudill (main and secondary main character) meet and become friends. In search of adventure and money they join Boone's uncle Zeb, a fur trapper about to lead a French expedition to the regions of the upper Missouri. The head of the expedition has bought Teal Eye,a princess of the Black Fleet tribe, from captivity; using her as a token of friendship he hopes to make good money with the Black Feet and overthrow the monopoly of the fur trading company.
They go up river, molested by the trading company's agents. Jim and Boone both fall in love with the Indian girl, yet Boone also displays some hatred against the Indians. Several adventures later(Indian raid, ambush by company agents, kidnapping of Teal Eye, wounding of Deakins) they reach the Black Feet and are greeted. Jim and Boone even solve their rivalry for Teal Eye. Boone stays and marries her, Jim will return with next year's expedition. | ||
