| Loosely based on the Stefan Zweig novel, LETTER FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN is a movie directed by Max Ophüls in 1948.
The setting is Vienna circa 1900. Louis Jourdan, a famous pianist, receives a letter from an unknown woman. In this letter, Joan Fontaine tells him first that she may be dead when he'll read it. From the first day on Jourdan has moved in the building, Joan Fontaine, a 12 years old child then, has fallen in love with him. She's devoted her entire life to Jourdan without his noticing. Over the years, she's met him twice but he didn't recognize her the second time. She even had a child from him she was able to raise by marrying a wealthy member of the aristocracy. But the boy dies from typhus and Fontaine, feeling that she has to die too, has decided to write this letter to the only love of her life. | ||
