Mr. Chipping (Robert Donat), an elderly classics teacher looks back over his lengthy teaching tenure as his in his twilight years as he is readying for retirement. He remembers interactions with various pupils and colleagues – especially the challenges they presented him, which were just as tough as those he presented them.
