Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Cronos
CRONOS is a movie written and directed by the Mexican director Guillermo del Toro (Blade 2) in 1993. This picture won numerous awards in European festivals.

Jesús Gris, an antique dealer, discovers by chance a mechanical device hidden by an alchemist of the XVIth century in the pedestal of a statue. This device contains an insect that can regenerate the one who places it on his skin. Unfortunately for Jesús, Dieter and Angel de la Guardia are soon aware of his discovery. Dieter is suffering from a terminal disease and is searching for years now this device whose mechanism is described in an old manuscript he owns. Jesús, who hasn't been able to resist the temptation to use the device, understands that the regeneration can not be completed without feeding his body with new blood. Killed by Angel, Jesús will nevertheless come to life again and try to prevent the de la Guardias from stealing the precious device.

In the Rennaisance an alchemist discovers the secret to immortality. He encloses his invention, the Cronos device inside a clockwork spider-like machine. When he finally dies during a cave-in in 1937, the secret is lost.
The Cronos device is found by an antique dealer, who has no idea what it is, or how to use it. He starts becoming immortal, but also develops a thirst for blood and an aversion to sunlight.
Meanwhile, a millionare recluse is looking for the device to become immortal. A hired thug is responsible for finding it. He finds out the dealer has found the invention, but it all leads to tragedy.
