| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Sands of Iwo Jima |
John Wayne plays Sgt. John Stryker, a miserable leader who must take charge of his troops and lead them into battle to capture an island. This movie is based on the iconic real life event of the capture of Iwo Jima, but the film is more than just action. Relationships between the men are explored as they are being trained up, and in the final battle on the Island, everyone learns to appreciate the importance of trust and friendship, especially in the darkest of times.
