| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about White Palace |
Max Baron (Spader) is a 27 year old successful business executive who is still recovering from the tragic death of his young wife. One night on his way to a bachelor party he stops for burgers at a restaurant called the White Palace where he is waited on by a waitress named Nora Baker (Sarandon). Later that night he meets Nora again at a bar and after drinking too much, ends up spending the night at her place. Nora is a 43 year old woman who is a lousy housekeeper and has a fixation with Marilyn Monroe. Despite age and socio-economic differences, Max and Nora fall in love but their relationship is strewn with problems. Nora questions whether or not she is good enough for Max while his mother and his affluent friends have a difficult time accepting her.
