Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Landspeed
Billy Zane plays a crazy race car driver, out to beat the landspeed record. The race is being held at the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, north of Reno. The location is flat, hot, and dry, with not a bump or curve to stop the cars from reaching outrageously high speeds. These cars are basically rocketcars using rocket fuel and turbines not car engines. The challenge is to reach Mach 2, twice the speed of sound. Other drivers are there, but one by one they drop out for whatever reason, until it comes down to Billy Zane and one other driver, the only other one with any real chance of breaking the sound barrier. Other characters include, Billy Zane's pit chief, who happens to be his father, and Pamely Gidley, who switches team when she realizes where her royalty really lies.
