| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about House of Flying Daggers |
In 849 AD, the Tang Dynasty is falling to pieces. Government is rife with corruption, and a grass-roots rebel organization called the House of Flying Daggers is rumored to be taking hold in the rural areas. Regional police officer and master swordsman Jin (Kaneshiro) goes undercover to try to infiltrate the rebel group, and meets a blind dancer, Mei, who also happens to have a terrific hand with sword and thrown knives, in a brothel.
After Mei is taken into custody, Jin breaks her out of jail and they race across country to make contact with the Flying Daggers, pursued by Jin's captain, Leo (Lau) and many government swordsmen. Jin and Mei start to fall in love, although he knows his task is ultimately to betray her. Does she know this?
Chinese director Zhang Yimou's 2004 followup to "Hero" is a more straightforward action drama and love story.
