Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Chronicles Of Riddick
This movie takes place about 5 years after Pitch Black, in which Riddick, a dangerous convict attempts to escape a planet cast permanently into night time, with dangerous nocturnal animals on the loose. The only others to survive the daring escape were Imam, a muslim, and Jack, a young girl masquerading as a boy, who develops a hero worship for Riddick.

The Chronicles of Riddick takes place five years after the first movie. Riddick has exiled himself to an ice planet, in the belief that it will keep Jack and Imam from further harm by being associated with him. He also believes that Jack is safe with Imam on a planet called Helion Prime. But in fact, Jack went looking for Riddick, got involved with the wrong crowd, and ended up in an underground max security prison on Crematoria, a planet with a daylight surface temperature so hot it will literally fry a man alive in seconds.

The Necromongers, a religious group dedicated to the belief that another universe known as 'the Underverse' exists in which the line between life and death becomes meaningless, is sweeping across the universe, destroying planets and annhialating all of those who come into their path and do not convert. Led by the powerful Lord Marshall, the story also focuses on one of his officers, the rather MacBeth-esque Lord Vaako and his cunning wife, Dame Vaako, who seek to overthrow the Lord Marshall and take his place. As the Necromongers move to invade Helion Prime, the planet is visited by one of the Elementals, five races that take on the embodiments of air, water, fire, earth, and ether. An air elemental named Aeron seeks information on a race called Furyans, who are foretold to be the only ones capable of defeating the Lord Marshall and is Necromongers. It is believed that all of the Furyans are dead, destroyed in a genocidal sweep by the Lord Marshall to prevent his own downfall. It is then that Imam realizes that Riddick may be one of these Furyans, and conspires with Aeron to place a bounty on Riddick's head in order to bring him out of hiding.

On planet UV, a cold wasteland, Riddick is hunted down by Toombs, a mercanary, and his team. Riddick makes short work of them, steals the mercenary ship, and heads for Helion Prime. He confronts Imam and meets Aeron, but denies his Furyan heritage despite having recieved visions of a woman from his race telling him that he must avenge his people. Initially refusing to get involved, he soon changes his mind when the Necromongers begin their invasion. Riddick does his best to save Imam and his family, but Imam dies in battle against the Necromongers. Riddick and many others are brought before the Lord Marshall, and is convinced by Dame Vaako to return to the Necromonger ship, where he is then tortured. He manages to escape, and is promptly captured by mercenaries; Toombs, the merc who lost him on Planet UV has acquired a new crew. Riddick manipulates them into taking him to Crematoria, where Jack is imprisoned.

He meets with Jack, who is now calling herself Kyra. Eventually they manage to escape the prison, and must race against the sunrise to make it to a ship to escape. But a legion of the Necromongers captained by Lord Vaako followed the mercenay ship, and ambush Riddick and the escaping prisoners, leaving Riddick for dead. Kyra, desperate to get off planet before she's turned to ash, stows away on the Necromonger ship. A surprising, secret ally reveals himself and saves Riddick, who must now travel to Helion Prime to rescue Kyra and defeat the Lord Marshall, even as Lord and Dame Vaako attempt to take his throne.
