800 BULLETS (800 balas) is a Spanish movie written and directed by Álex de la Iglesia in 2002.
Young Carlos Torralba has been raised by his mother Laura (Carmen Maura) since the death of his father. One day, Carlos finds a picture of his father in his mother's stuff and asks his grandmother about him. She tells the young boy that his father and his grandfather were stuntmen in the westerns shot in the Almeria desert during the sixties and the seventies.
Carlos decides to go all by himself to Almeria and leaves the ski camp he was in. In Almeria, he meets his grandfather Julián who, in the company of a few friends, play western scenes in the abandoned Almeria studios for the rare tourists who still go there. For a few days, Carlos will share the life of these stuntmen and learn the facts of life by observing his grandfather who will tell him that his son died in a stunt accident.
In the meantime, Laura has bought the Almeria studios in order to build a theme park. She asks the police to make the stuntmen leave, by force if necessary. With 800 real bullets and a rifle, Julian Torralba will play the most important scene of his life. As in the best westerns, he will defend the ghost town against the police and the special forces who attack it.
