| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Accident |
Based on a script by Harold Pinter, ACCIDENT was directed by Joseph Losey in 1967. This movie earned the Grand Prize of the Jury of the Cannes Film Festival.
Stephen is a 40 years old professor teaching philosophy at Oxford University. Married to Rosalind who's expecting their third child, Stephen secretly falls for his pupil Anna, an Austrian young girl and also the girl-friend of William, a blue-blooded student who has become Stephen's friend. Stephen hesitates to confess his attraction to Anna and settles for a light flirting.
One night, coming back unexpectedly from London, Stephen creeps up on Anna and his Oxford colleague Charley, who've just made love in one of the rooms of Stephen's home. From this moment on, Stephen will be the silent and passive observer of the consequences of this situation on William and on Charley's wife.
