| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill |
A flock of wild cherry-headed conures -- most of them released or escaped pets originally captured in South America -- lives in the parks on Telegraph Hill near Coit Tower in San Francisco. Mark Bittner, an unsuccessful musician living in a shack rent-free, begins to feed and name the parrots, some of whom gladly come into his place. It's a happy arrangement, except when the occasional hawk flies over and nails one of the brightly-colored birds.
Bittner and the parrots enjoy the benign neglect of his landlords and the City of San Francisco until remodeling plans force his eviction, which arouses the local media. Where will he go? And what will happen to the parrots?
