Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Ax
THE AX (Le Couperet), based on the Donald E. Westlake novel, was co-written and directed by Costa-Gavras (Missing, Z) in 2004.

Bruno Davert lost his job two years ago and found none since. He was a successful engineer in a factory specialized in the chemical treatment of paper. Now, tired of being jobless, he imagines a way to be hired by Arcadia, the actual leader of the branch. After having obtained, by placing a false ad, the names of the unemployed engineers looking for a similar job, he decides to eliminate those who, according to himself, have a better résumé than his. He methodically kills four competitors without being suspected by the police. In the meantime, his wife Marlène worries about Bruno's behaviour and asks him to see with her a marriage counselor.
