Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Marie Antoinette
Austrian princess Marie Antoinette is 15 years old when she leaves her homeland to marry the heir of the throne of France, Louis Auguste. But the marriage is not consummated before months because of their inexperience in sexual matters. The young girl is quickly bored by the life at Versailles and often asks her husband to take her to the theatres and operas of Paris. Louis Auguste's grandfather Louis XV dies and the young man, more interested in making keyholes than in studying international politics, becomes then Louis the XVIth. Marie Antoinette spends a lot of money in jewels, furnitures and clothes and loses a lot of money by playing cards and roulette.

When she gives birth to her first child, Madame Royale, a girl, Louis XVI decides to bukld for his wife a little castle, Le Petit Trianon, in the gardens of Versailles, where Marie Antoinette will spend from now on most of her time. She will make a farm out of the building, bringing sheeps and chickens to Versailles. She has a then a brief affair with Count Fersen, a Swedish military officer and finally gives birth to the new heir of the throne of France, the little Louis the XVIIth. In 1789, although everyone reommends her to leave Versailles, she decides to stay with her husband and to wait with him for the angry crowd which is approaching Versailles. Written and directed by Sofia Coppola in 2005.
