When picking up his wife in a Washington D.C. airport, John McClane(Bruce Willis) has yet another run-in with terrorists on Christmas Eve. This time, the corrupt General Stewart and his small group of terrorists have taken control of the planes in the sky by cutting off communication between the tower and the planes and the terrorists are the only ones who can talk to the planes. They have ordered the planes to circle in their outer marker, and John must stop the terrorists before the his wife (Bonnie Bedelia)'s planes drops from lack of fuel.
