| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Nurse Betty |
In this dark comedy a woman witnesses her husband getting killed by two criminals. She becomes so traumatized that she falls in love with a soap opera character she thinks is real. She heads to L.A. with her husband's truck. Inside the truck is a bunch of money. The killers then chase after her, because they want the money. She meets the actor of the soap opera, but doesn't realize his character isn't real, during the same time the criminals are following her.

In this semi-black comedy, an oppressed homemaker and part-time waitress is pushed over the edge into a post-traumatic-stressful romantic obsession with her favorite soap opera star after the violent murder of her husband before her eyes. She makes her way from Kansas City to LA to find her beloved, with the killers (stately Morgan Freeman and jumpy Chris Rock) in pursuit because the drugs they killed her husband for are in the trunk of her car. Zellweger is sexy, sweet, and odd, Greg Kinnear okay as the actor who plays her "physician"/love object. Writer-director Neil LaBute went somewhat mainstream with this 2000 release, which is less savage and rewarding than his 1997 debut, "In the Company of Men."
