The Navy asks a deep-sea oil rig crew to help find a missing submarine. As they search, they find an unknown form of life in a very deep part of the ocean. As the rig boss struggles to come to terms with his estranged wife, one of the Navy SEALS is affected by depth and high pressure, causing psychosis, paranoia, and danger to the other crew members and to the newly discovered life form.

A U.S. submarine has just sunk under the ocean. Russian involvement is suspected and a team of navy seals is sent down to invesitgate. A crew of underwater oil miners including Bud Brigman(Ed Harris)are required to help the seals search the sunken submarine for survivors. But as time goes on a storm brews above while strange events go on below. Lindsey Brigman(Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio)tells her ex-husband Bud that she has been seeing some kind of strange underwater objects, which thinks are intelligent creatures, while the seals believe they are Russian subs. Events escalate as the mining platform runs out of life support, the seals retrieve a nuke from the sunken sub and arm it, events heat up between America and Russia above, and the so called aliens are seen. Things have to be done quickly so they can stop World War 3 and really find out what the intelligent lifeforms are.

Ed Harris play Bud Brigman, the toolpusher on an underwater drilling platform designed by his soon-to-be-ex-wife, Lindsey (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio). A US submarine sinks near Cuba & the Navy enlists the help of the workers on the drilling rig in a rescue attempt. Four Navy SEALs are sent down to supervise this mission. Headed by Lt. Coffey, played by Michael Biehn. Too bad that Coffey suffers the effects of HPNS and begins to go a little over the edge.
All this and oh yeah, there seem to be some unidentified underwater flying objects. Of course only Lindsey seems to see the & Coffey thinks they're Russian.
This movie is full of conflicts, romance, action and adventure & is one of my favorite movies.

Director James Cameron's undersea adventure, filmed in a gigantic water tank, is about an alien society living below Earth's oceans. But what are their intentions? A group of underwater engineers want to find out, while another group of Navy S.E.A.L.s are out to destroy them. NOTE: I highly recommend that you watch the longer director's cut version. It is more detailed, makes more sense and has a stronger ending.
