Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Return to Me
Bob Rueland loses his wife in a car accident. Afterwards he sinks into a deep depression, burying himself in his work. Meanwhile, Grace, who has been in desperate need of a heart transplant gets Bob's wife's heart. She gets a new lease on life. Her only problem is she wants to forget her time as an invalid. Anytime her friends or family set her up with a guy, they usually treat her like she's liable to break.

At the insistance of his friend, Bob goes out on a double date. They go to the restaurant that Grace's family owns. Although he has a horrible time with his date, he's instantly drawn to Grace who waits on them. They begin dating. Grace gives Bob a new found joy in living. Grace feels she's finally met a man who sees her, and not her former illness. But, Grace hasn't told Bob about her heart transplant -or that it's his wife's.

This movie is about what happens when fate steps in to mix things up. A widower named Bob Rueland (David Duchovny) meets and falls in love with a waitress, Grace Briggs (Minne Driver) at the local Italian resturant, O'Reilly's. This is a heart felt romance between two people who fate placed in one another's paths all due to a tragic car accident and a heart transplant. Return to Me is filled with laughter, tears, and show that even destiny can not break the bonds of love.
--Ashuri Saiya-jin, Resident Scholar

Bob must try to cope with the death of his wife. Grace had a heart transplant right after Bob's wife was killed in a car accident. When Bob and Grace meet one year after the accident, they are immediately attracted to each other. This movie is full of comedy, but it's a little sad at times, too.

At the beginning of the movie, David Duchovney's wife is killed in a car accident. Across town, Minnie Driver is in desperate need of a heart transplant. She gets David Duchovny's wife's heart and more than a year later, without realising this connection, they meet and fall in love. The plot sounds very schmaltzy, but Bonnie Hunt makes it work by keeping all of the characters thoroughly likable illiciting winning performances from the entire cast.
