| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about North by Northwest |
All of director Alfred Hitchcock's themes are here: An everyday man (Cary Grant) caught up in mysterious events, a polite but oily villain (James Mason), a beautiful blonde (Eve Marie Saint) and imaginative set-piece scenes. The film follows Grant's Roger Thornhill as he tries to figure out why he has been mistaken for spy, escape danger from a homocidal cropduster and fall in love with a treacherous double-agent.

Cary Grant plays Roger Thornhill, a man who is chased all over USA by a crime orginization that thinks he is a double agent.

Cary Grant is caught up in a fatal case of mistaken identity in this Masterpiece directed by Sir Alfred Hitchcock. James Mason is convinced that Grant is a spy who has been hounding him, and so frames Grant for murder. Grant, while on the run, meets and falls in love with Eva Marie Saint, who is more than she seems to be. One great scene follows immediately on the heels of another. Mission Impossible 2 only wishes it was this cool.
