| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Patton |
George C Scott plays General George Patton of the 3rd Army during World War II. This is based on George Patton's book about his life during WW2, his time in Africa, Italy, and finally his command of the 3rd army. It explains his feelings about war and courage, the way he interacts with the soldiers under his command, and why he was one of the most productive generals in WW2.

The Second World War combat general is vividly brought to life by George C. Scott's Oscar-winning performance. The film gives us none of Patton's background or earlier career, picking up right at his entry into the war after the debacle at Kasserine Pass and ending shortly after V-E day with a somewhat fanciful near-miss incident with a wooden cart (not long before his actual death in a car accident, which is not referred to). Battle scenes are vivid, and Scott renders Patton's complexity and poetic side as best he can in what is basically an old-fashioned war movie.
