| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Truman Show |
Truman Burbank has a lovely, uneventful, normal life working in an insurance company in a sunny, pleasant town. But one day he stumbles on the truth: He has been living a totally artificial life -- surrounded by actors, even his family, and cameras which broadcast every minute of his days on television. What will he do with this knowledge? Whom can he trust? Can he escape the fate that has been his since birth? And who's in charge of the whole shebang? Ed Harris is terrific as the god-like director of the "Truman Show," Natascha McElhone gorgeous and memorable as a supporting actor in the show who feels guilty about how Truman is misled and used. There are many wonderful laughs in this movie, and Carrey plays a sweet, innocent joe, but the story has a thought-provoking edge to it.

a breathtakingly tragic and sensitive, but also philosophically astonishing movie.
