| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Things To Do in Denver When You're Dead |
Jimmy "the Saint" Tosnia (Garcia) has a business videotaping terminally ill patients so they can give their bereaved loved ones "Afterlife Advice." The business isn't doing well, and Jimmy has expensive tastes, so he's gone into hock to loan sharks. A local gangster kingpin identified only as "The Man With the Plan" (Walken) has bought up Jimmy's notes and demands he do a job, which involves throwing a scare into a guy. Unfortunately, Jimmy's eccentric and rusty gang of misfits screws up the job and ends up being hunted by an incredibly skilled assassin (Buscemi) themselves. This is a vivid and violent caper film, more shocking than funny (or shockingly funny), with lots of delightful character acting (especially Buscemi, and Treat Williams as "Critical Bill," not to mention Walken at his utter creepiest). One could call it "Tarantino-esque," and though it doesn't hang together very well, it's worth seeing.

A young man's hi-tech memorial video business is in financial trouble, so he goes back to his mobster boss to borrow some money. The boss isn't too keen, but they do a deal. This involves a small team going out and bringing back the boss's son's ex-girlfriend and scaring off her new boyfriend. Things go badly wrong: the girl and her new boyfriend getting killed by one of the team's less stable members. The boss is not at all pleased and decides that the team and its leader be killed in reciprocity; brutally -'buckwheats'.
