Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Tom Jones

It's four Academy Awards (including Best Picture) aside, this quintessential British
comedy is a movie for all seasons! Starring a young Albert Finney, “Tom Jones,” is a racy,
bawdy, absolutely funny, and perfectly executed cinematic work. Tony Richardson's
superb direction, using the screenwriting of John Osborne and musical score (a
masterpiece in itself) by John Addison, the movie literally rocks. Set in the 18th century,
the film is the story of Tom Jones, a “foundling,” abandoned at birth in the bed of Squire
Allworthy. He is “born to be hanged.” All three hours or so of this 1963 film is a mesmerizing cinematic treat !
