| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Pink Panther |
A clueless policeman (Clouseau/Martin)is promoted to the position of inspector, to investigate and capture the person responsible for the murder of the French national soccor coach and to retrieve the Pink Panther diamond that the victim was wearing at the time of the murder.
But his promotion is only a tactic by the chief inspector (Dreyfus/Kline). The chief inspector's intension is to come into the investigation half way through and solve the case to win the French National Medal of Honor that he is nominated for.
Not all goes well for the chief's plan as Clouseau manages to get himself nominated for the Medal of Honor and win the hearts of the French nation.
Dreyfus fights back by sabotaging Clouseau's bag at a New York airport which in turn disgraces Clouseau and gets him of the case.
All seems to be going well for the chief inspector as he homes in to arrest his prime suspect at a ball to be held at the presidential palace.

Peter Sellers' debut as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau is a milestone in movie history.
Directed by Blake Edwards, “The Pink Panther” launched a series of riotous comedy par
excellence! David Niven plays “The Phantom,” an international jewel thief whom no one
has been able to identify, let alone arrest. Enter Clouseau. The Inspector, of course, is out
of his element, but incredibly lucky--everything always falls into his lap. Set in the Italian
Alps during ski season, the locale is perfect, as is the cast. Henry Mancini's music simply
underscores the class of the film. It is ha-ha-hilarious!
