| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Alamo |
It was called “the thirteen days of glory” and is the “national shrine” of Texas. “The Alamo,” produced, directed, and starred by John Wayne, is a movie of epic proportions as it attempts to chronicle one of Texas' (and the nation's) memorable events--of how some 185 men tried to defend the Alamo, a small mission near San Antonio, from some 7000 soldiers led by General Santa Ana of Mexico. While the Texas defenders lost, their heroic struggle was the impetus to winning Texas' independence later at the battle of San Jacinto. Certainly this movie is long-winded (but probably not to Texas fans!), but is well-done,
well-filmed, well-directed. The musical score by Dimitri Tiompkin is well worth a listen to, too!
