| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about After the Fox |
Peter Sellers is a master at playing multiple roles (just see “Dr. Strangelove”) and in “After the Fox,” he is on target once again. In Cairo, a robbery of millions of dollars worth of gold bullion has been committed and the police are baffled: they have no idea where it is!
This is a case for The Fox, or Aldo Venucci (Peter Sellers), international genius and criminal par excellence! Sellers devises a plan to get the gold by posing as a film director, making a movie in a small seaside village in Italy (where he plans to import all this gold). Sellers commands the movie with his impersonations, quick wit, and sleight of hand tricks. Victor Mature plays an aging, egotistical actor for Sellers' “film,” and Britt Ekland is the “romantic” interest as Gina Romantica, Sellers' sister. Shot on location in Italy, the film
moves at tremendous pace, with music by Burt Bacharach. It is directed by Vittorio de Sica and written by Neil Simon.
