Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Game
Nicholas Van Orton (Douglas) is a wealthy financier who lives in San Francisco. His wife has left him and he's facing his 48th birthday alone. As a birthday gift, his wayward younger brother Conrad (Penn) gets Nick a unique experience run by "Consumer Recreation Services" called The Game. The thrilling and challenging Game strips Van Orton of his job, his wealth, his dignity, and nearly his sanity, as he tries to figure out what's happening and when (or if) the Game will ever end. Inspired by a real-life high tech and expensive annual Game financed by wealthy benefactors such as Bill Gates (which in turn was inspired by the Michael J. Fox movie "Midnight Madness"), this overly slick and manipulative film was directed by David Fincher. Consider it a modern, urban, corporate version of "It's a Wonderful Life"....
--David Loftus, Resident Scholar

Michael Douglas plays a distant and self-absorbed banker who is connected with a company offering a "life-changing experience." He soon finds out that this game is more elaborate than imaginable and has him questioning his security and friends. Every minute leaves the audience with a new puzzle piece to the game in this enveloping thriller from David Fincher.
--Mike T. W., Resident Scholar

The Game is a psychological thriller from director David Fincher. Douglas is given a birthday gift from is eccentric brother (Penn) for the organization CRS. They provide a real life game spark up adventure in others. Things go wrong when Douglas' assets disappear and he is being chased down and almost killed.
--Brian Oliver, Resident Scholar
