| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about A Boy and His Dog |
A funky Grade-B picture based on Harlan Ellison's savage post-apocalyptic satire of Albert Payson Terhune dog tales. Vic is a young buck, heavily armed, who is partnered with a telepathic mutt much better educated than he. The two depend on each other for survival in a tough, blasted world. One day Vic encounters a beautiful girl from one of the "downunders" -- sterile, safe, and secure communities under the ground where "nice" people retreated during the big wars above. She lures him down there and he must find out why, as well as to whom his loyalty ultimately belongs. Young unknown Don Johnson is all right as Vic, Tim McIntire wonderfully voices the dog Blood, and Robards cameos as one of the stodgy town elders below ground.
