| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Anna and the King |
Anna Leonowens arrives in 19th-Century Siam to teach English in the Royal Siamese court. Though her methods and perceptions at first surprise and even alarm leaders of the Siamese court, including King Mongkut himself and especially the more conservative members of his militia, Anna eventually endears herself to the King by earning the respect and affection of his children, in particular the young Crown Prince. The interference of colonial powers including France and Great Britain, however, lead to conflict as the Thai king fights to keep Siam free as the only asian country never conquered by foreigners. Other conflicts include the forbidden romance between Burmese slave-princess Tuptim and her Thai lover and Anna's interference in the matter of the princess's punishment.

Anna is an English school teacher hired to teach the children of the king of Siam. Soon, the country is in danger of being taken over by England. Only, Anna can stop them. The plot is thin, and has a poor screenplay. Only amazing costumes, set, and camera work can save this film from getting low marks.

Anna comes to Siam to teach the King's children the ways of the Western world. In the process she finds romance with the King and treachery in his court. A rousing spectacle of epic proportions.
