Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Pledge
Ret. Detective Jerry Black (Nicholson) knows that the police have caught a suspect who confessed to raping and killing a little girl and then committed suicide. He also knows the real killer is still out there. Haunted by a pledge he made to the girl's mother to find the killer, Jerry methodically sets a trap that reveals his own descent into madness.
--Ed, Resident Scholar

A retiring poilce investigator is faced with one last case and makes a pledge to the family of a young rape victim. The struggle is made from him and his search for the killer of this little girl.Leads him into an insane trip of suspects and murder.

Jack Nicholson makes a promise to the mother of a slain 9 year old girl. Nicholson begins on a downward psychological spiral as he tries to search for the killer. The film is character driven (Director Sean Penn's specialty) but the ending leaves you dissapointed.
