Buttercup is a lowely farm girl who falls in love with her servant, but when he goes to seek his fortune, she hears that he was killed by the dreaded priate Robertson. The Prince (who has nothing better to do than to hurt others) forces her to marry him, after "rescuing" her from a masked man (who is he...?) who rescued her from three kidnappers who wanted to start a war. Buttercup's true love (her former servant) comes back with the help of a giant and a spaniard to save her from the wicked Prince.

The Princess Bride is basically a parody of sword fighting and a romantic comedy. Bittercup and her farmboy Westley fall deeply in love but he must leave to search for his fortune. She gets word that he has been killed by the dreaded pirate roberts, and Prince Humperdink (Main adversary) takes her as his bride. On an early morning horse ride she is kidnapped by three hooligans, Vizzini, Inigo Montoya, and Fezzic. They plan to bring her to Gilder, kill her and start a war. But strangely, a man in a mask shows up to spoil their plans. He rescues her after hand fighting a giant, defeating a swordmaster, and outwitting a genious. We find out that the masked man is Westley, her true love. They try to escape from Humperdink into the fire swamp. After many near death situations, they are caught and Buttercup is taken away, and Westley is led to the torture chamber. Fezzic and Montoya decide they want to help Westley get Buttercup back and Montoya wants to avenge his fathers death by killing Count Ruegan, the six fingered man. THey rescue Westley from the torture chamber and bring him back to life with the help of Miracle Max. Eventually they raid Humperdink's castle, save Buttercup, kill Ruegan, and escape unharmed, although Westley is weak from him being "almost dead". Buttercup and Westley then share one of the greatest on screen kisses of all time.

Westley, an orphan farm boy, falls in love with Buttercup, the milk maid daughter of the family he slaves for. She discovers she truly loves him back, and so off he goes to search for his fortune across the sea. He promises to return, but soon after, she hears of his death at the hands of The Dread Pirate Roberts, who never takes prisoners. Buttercup swears to never love again, and because of her beauty, soon she finds herself engaged to the Prince of Florin, however lovelessly. And then three men kidnap her, and a mysterious man in black appears....

Buttercup, a lovely farmgirl, is chosen to marry the avaricious and cruel Prince Humperdinck. Her first love, a servant boy named Westley, was apparently killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts, and Buttercup is kidnapped by some rogues secretly hired by the Prince so he can pretend to save the day. Along with a master swordsman named Inigo Montoya (who seeks revenge for the killing of his father), the Dread Pirate Roberts swoops in and captures Buttercup's heart -- although arrest and torture, and apparent death occur along the way. Director Rob Reiner's version of William Goldman's delightful novel and screenplay is an enchanting post-modern fairy tale, self-consciously framed by a grandfather (Peter Falk) reading and discussing the tale with his grandson (Fred Savage). The supporting cast includes Wallace Shawn, Chris Sarandon, Peter Cook, Carol Kane, and Billy Crystal.

After her one true love, Wesley, was "murdered" by the dread pirate Roberts, the beautiful and unwilling Buttercup is betrothed to evil Prince Humperdink. When she is kidnapped by an alcoholic swordsman, a rhyming giant, and a scheming Sicilian before the wedding, Wesley makes a triumphant return to save her from these criminals, ROUS's (rodents of unusual size), and a fiancé with murder on his mind. It is a tale of true love and the power of universal faith in that love.
