This film is basically about underground survival involving ants and grasshoppers. The ants try to store as much food as they can for the coming winter, while the lazy grasshoppers want to have some of the ants' food for themselves. An all-star cast voices the rival insects, and it inspired another insect story, called A Bug's Life.

An insecure nebbish miner and finds dissilusionment in his lot in life. The princess decides to go slumming and meets him. He falls in love. He trades places with his buddy, a soldier ant, to try to see her again. After a battle and other adventures, he and the princesss find the mythical "insectopia," but there is a plot by the senior military to drown all the workers so only the military survives. Ultimately, Our Hero finds his confidence, saves the nest and marries the princess. Believe it or not, this movie has much brilliant satire, and has an important message of making your own choices to reach your potential.
