| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Little Voice |
LV has lived in the shadows her entire life, dominated entirely by her larger than life mother. But up in her room, listening to her favourite classic songs, she has been nurturing an amazing talent for mimicking the old-time greats like Monroe and Judy Garland.
LV is forced to come out of her shell by washed up producer Ray Say, her mother's current seedy boyfriend, who wants to profit from her talent. Along the way, she forms a tentative romance with local boy Billy, someone nearly as shy as she is. Painfully shy LV agrees to a one-off performance, but that's not what Ray has in mind... Gambling everything he sets up the big show, but problems arise, leading up to a dramatic conclusion.
Packed full of show-stopping tunes, this film is based on the play 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice'.

Little Voice is a girl with an extraordinary talent for singing, as her mother and her mother's latest boyfriend find out. The boyfriend, coincidentally, is an agent in showbiz and becomes very interested in LV, and soon realizes she could be a goldmine. Her mother has the same thought, and exploits her talent and between them they set Little Voice up singing in a club. LV gets tired of this, and eventually refuses to sing, much to the anger of her mother, who gets angry with her and the film ends up with them having a huge argument and LV finally standing up for herself and defiantly telling her mother that her name is Laura, not Little Voice.

Little Voice is a film based on the play "The Rise and fall of Little Voice" a play written with Jane Horricks' ability to impersonate in mind by British playwright Jim Cartwright. Little Voice (L.V) LIVES alone with her mother, Mari who drinks and sleeps around almost nightly. L.V struggles with her mother and has feelings of contempt towards her. Since her treasured father's death L.V has basically become a mute shutting herself away only with her fathers recored collection. This is where her vocal talent is born. Her mother's latest beau, Ray-say, a local 'talent' scout hears her and the couple use L.V for the finacial gain saying if she performs she'd be doing her father proud. In the end L.V and Mari let their true feelings known by expressing them in a massive arguement. Despite all this the film looks lightly and makes bad situations like Mari's drinking and generally common behaviour highly amusing.
