| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about La Bamba |
This is a movie based on a true story of Musician Ritchie Valens, career, family, and death.
--J snyder, Resident Scholar
|
The story of Ritchie Valens' meteoric but brief rise to fame which ended in that plane crash with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper. The main focus is on his love/rivalry with his older half-brother Bob and the romance between him and Donna, a white "good girl" whose parents disapprove. Great cameos by Marshall Crenshaw, Howard Huntsberry, and Brian Setzer singing and performing as Buddy Holly, Jackie Wilson, and Eddie Cochran. Ritchie's music is done by Los Lobos, who also appear as a Mexican band playing a version of "La Bamba that inspires Ritchie.
