| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Rocky |
A small-time, not-so-bright boxer named Rocky struggles to make ends meet by collecting money for a loanshark. He likes the girl who works at the petshop and finally asks her out. She accepts and they begin a relationship. Finally, the boxer gets a break. The boxing champion, wanting to put on a show, needs an opponent. He chooses Rocky because of his name and his heritage. Rocky accepts the challenge, but doesn't expect to win; he only wants to go the distance. After some serious training he steps into the ring. He gives the champ everything he's got, and to the surprise of most, in the end, he's still standing.

You don't have to be a fan of boxing to love this film. Philadelphia native Rocky Balboa (Stallone), aka the Italian Stallion, gets the chance of a lifetime when he accepts an offer to fight heavyweight champ Apollo Creed (Weathers). The fight takes place on America's 200th birthday at the Philadelphia Spectrum. In training for the historic match, Balboa takes on a rather unusual training regime, in which he drinks a mixture of raw eggs and beats up on large pieces of meat. And even though the fight ends in a draw, Balboa goes from notorious street fighter to national hero. The film is the first in a series of the best boxing movies ever made, and it further demonstrates why the underdog can end up being everybody's favorite.

The movie that started it all, Rocky. Everyone thinks they know the story of Rocky because they've seen the sequels. Well if thats all you've seen then you havent seen a thing, because Rocky is the real thing.
It is one of the most well written and acted movies I have ever seen, Stallone has NEVER been better. From the writing, to the directing, to the music to the acting Rocky is flawless.
It is the story about a blue collar man trying to gain self respect and love by going the distance with the heavyweight champion of the world. The result is a highly entertaining, emotional and inspiring film. A movie that will go down in history as a classic. See it!
