A Vietnam vet looking for work, is passing through a small town when the sheriff starts giving him a hard time and tries to run him out of town.
He refuses to leave so the sherrif arrests him for vagrancy, resisting arrest and carrying a concealed weapon, his army knife.
The cops are mean to him and he keeps having flashbacks of the war so he attacks the cops and escapes, running into the hills.
The cops give chase, but the vet takes them out one-by-one. The sherrif calls in the state police and the national guard.
The vet's captain shows up and tries to talk him in, but its no use.
The national guard traps the vet it a mine and blows it up. But, the vet escapes. He returns to the town, blows up a couple buildings, cuts the power and goes after the sherrif. He finds the sherriff on the roof of the police station. He shhots through the ceiling. The sherrif gets hit and falls through a skylight. The vet prepares to kill the sherriff, but his captain shows up and talks him into sparing the sheriff's life.
He gets the vet to surrender and turn himself in before anymore innocent people get hurt or killed.

As the Grand daddy of action movies, First Blood employs a lot of the narrative techniques we see in modern Hollywood picture, only with a much creative way of handling the elements. Shot in the style of Kurosawa, this film also uses a lot of film techniques that work to its advantage while being completely unobtrusive.
