| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Hoffa |
I am basing my review of the movie 'Hoffa' on a man whom I had the greatest of respect for and who actually knew 'Uncle Jimmy' as a Coca-Cola truck driver, manager, and member of the teamster's local for Coca-Cola many years ago. He was my father-in-law John Walters. While he is now deceased, John was a man who always brought a smile to your face and told me exactly how the movie 'Hoffa', which we watched together, was a terrible portrayal of a man who really cared for his working brothers. According to John, Hoffa never swore, smoked, or drank and was actually a real gentleman around women. While he didn't know Hoffa in his younger years, he was one of his body guards when the Teamster President came to Bridgeport, Ct many years ago. We still have the picture of John and Jimmy with Jimmy signing John's shirt. Personally John said the Hoffa Nicholsen portrayed was nothing like the real man. It was Hollywood at it's worst, again tearing down the reputation of a basically good man to fit the image Hollywood wanted to sell. It would have been a good movie if it wasn't supposed to be true. But I guess that's Hollywood for you. If it isn't full of sex, violence, and in this case- out of character profanity- it just doesn't sell.
