Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Jaws 2
In the small island town of Amity, Sheriff Brody is once again faced with mysterious deaths. The strange disappearance of two divers and an odd explosion lead him to believe another great white shark is lurking about Amity Island. He is finally convinced by an ambiguous photograph that his suspicions of a new threat are correct, so Sheriff Brody pleads with a reluctant town council to help prevent another disaster. The council refuses to believe him and Brody is fired from his position. Sheriff Brody reluctantly accepts their decision, but when his two sons are reported stranded on wrecked sailboats he bravely starts out into the ocean to bring them back alive.
--Brodie McCarthy, Resident Scholar

In this sequel to the original, Chief Brody is trying to return the town of Amity and himself back to normal. It's not long, however, until Brody begins to believe that there is a shark once again lurking in the waters, ready and willing to feed.

When Brody's two sons and a group of friends head out for a day of sailing, it seems like a fun day. That is until the shark begins to attack the boats, slowly and methodically waiting until the right time to attack. The shark begins to kill one after another.

Back on shore, it's up to Brody to find the group of kids and stop yet another shark.

--Adam Whitton, Resident Scholar

Just when Amity thought that it was safe to swim again, another shark comes. After an attack on some scuba divers taking photographs, and two women out at sea, Chief Brody is sure that another shark has arrived. He once again tells the mayor to close the beachers, and he again keeps them open and takes Brody's badge in the process. Worried about the safety of his children, Brody bans them from going sailing. They don't listen, and they go out instead. Brody then goes and searches for them. Although this film isn't as well-written as the first film, it's still quite enjoyable. It's not as scary as well, but Murray Hamilton has a wonderful job as his last performance as the mayor.
--Estefan Ellison, Resident Scholar

It has been four years since the killer shark attacked Amity Island. Everything is back to normal. The season is just starting and the mayor and advisers are worried about it. Chief Martin Brody(Roy Scheider)believes that there is another shark out in the waters of Amity. But no one believes him, they don't want him to ruin the season. Brody knows whats going on though, and it hits too close to home when his sons go out on a sailing trip and he has to save them.
--Will Dame, Resident Scholar
