A young man driving along a road picks up a hitchhiker. This hitchhiker begins to act very strange and then tries to kill the driver. The driver escapes and continues on, but it is not over yet. He sees the killer again and tries to save a family, but is too late. The killer than continues to stalk this man. To add to the problem the police think that the young man is the killer. With only the help of a young woman this man must try to survive this ordeal with a madman who won't quit.

Cross genre horror/Thriller/Road movie in which student C. Thomas Howell speeds acros desert highway avoiding insane hitchhiker Rutger Hauer who is chasing him in a deadly game of cat and mouse. A battle of wits between Howells victimized student and Hauers obbsessive psychopath, Scary, nerve wracking, and entertaining, Jennifer Jason Leigh co stars as a friendly waitress who joins in the chase.
