Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Analyze This
Paul Vitti's family has just died, and now whenever he sees an emotional advertisement, he cries. He then decides to visit a psychiatrist. It just so happens that one of his henchmen crashed into one while driving, and he has the doctor's card. Vitti then visits the man, named Dr. Ben Sobol, and so becomes one of his patients. Everything is fine at first, but then Vitti wants to see Ben every moment of the day. Things soon turn hectic when Vitti's shenanigans interfere with Ben's wedding. Harold Ramis (who also did the classic comedy, Groundhog Day) writes a funny screenplay, and tops it off with a smooth direction. Billy Crystal gives a great comedic performance, but even Robert DeNiro, who has less experience doing comedy, is better then Crystal. Lisa Kudrow gives a bland performance as Ben's to-be-bride, while the actor who plays their son is not needed. The best scene in the whole film occurs near the end, when Ben pretends to be a gangster.
--Estefan Ellison, Resident Scholar

Think of this movie as The Sopranos meets What About Bob? DeNiro plays a member of the Mafia who seeks help from his psychiatrist, played beautifully by Crystal. The Mafia is not too happy about this, and they force DeNiro's character to bring the psychiatrist to one of their meetings. Lisa Kudrow (the supertalented Phoebe on Friends) is fabulous as the psychiatrist's fiancee.
--Teddy, Resident Scholar

Billy Crystal is a psychiatrist and Robert De Niro is a mob boss with emotional problems. As Billy Crystal tries to help him, De Niro inadvertantly ruins his wedding and gets him a little too involved with the mob.
