Harry Potter discovers he's a wizard when a giant named Hagrid batters down the door. He goes away to a school of magic, Hogwarts, and the first parts of the film are focused on Harry's discovering this new world - studying potions and broomstick riding, learning a magical sport, meeting teachers and befriending the other main protagonists, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. But things start to go wrong, with unknown villains seeking access to a hidden chamber guarded by a three-headed dog. After some research, the heroes discover that the chamber contains the Philosopher's Stone, which can provide access to eternal life. They have to find their way through various puzzles and traps to reach the chamber for a final showdown with a villain whose identity is one of the mysteries of the film. This magical adventure is mainly aimed at children.

This Movie is a fantastic adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Novel, "Harry Potter and the Philospher's stone" A liitle bit on the long side, but transposed the writtern book to film beautifully. A story of a boy, who learns that he is a wizard and sets of for wizard school and new adventures. Learns of his past, parents and the scar on his forehead. All kids should watch this movie.

Harry Potter has just discovered he is a wizard, and is sent to Hogwarts School Of Wizardry & Witchcraft to develop his skills. However, he must save his comrades from the evil Valdemort who killed Harry's parents... can he use the fabled Philosopher's Stone to help him? An average coming-of-age kids' fantasy film.

Harry Potter, an orphan adopted by his aunt's grating family, is whisked off to the Hogwarts School for Wizards at the age of 11. He begins to learn to cast spells and fly a broom (most spectacularly in the high-speed wizard sport of Quidditch), and encounters various pitfalls from jealous and scheming schoolmates to a troll in the girl's bathroom and a giant three-headed dog. Finally comes a series of tests of skill and magic to confront the evil wizard who killed his parents. The special effects are fine, the script okay and the acting good (special kudos to Coltrane as Hagrid, and the two kids who play Hermione and Ron); J.K. Rowling's huge bestselling first book is faithfully recreated on the screen.

This sticks fairly closely to the book, so I won't reveal the plot which would let the secret out on two things at once. It's OK. It is also very British and a bit old-fashioned to my way of thinking, so probably not a box office smash then. At two-and-a-half hours long, you probably need to be over ten years old to sit it out. If you are an adult, sneak a four-pack in with you and take the taxi home.
