| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Cat O' Nine Tails |
Written and directed by Dario Argento in 1971, THE CAT O'NINE TAILS, a giallo, is the second movie of the italian director.
Karl -Franco Arno- Malden is a blind man living with his 10 years old niece near a medical institute specialized in genetics. When someone breaks in the institute and, the next day, one of the researchers is run over by a train at the railway station, Arno decides to begin a private investigation. He convinces James -Carlo Giordani- , a journalist working on the case, to help him as they remark on a photography that someone has pushed the scientist under the train. But each time they think to get an information from someone, the murderer is faster and kills the potential witness by strangulation. Little by little, they narrow the circle of potential killers to the people working in the institute. They are told by its founder's daughter, the beautiful Catherine Spaak, that some of the scientists were working on a special governmental project about genetics. The killer could be a spy working for a rival organization. Or maybe not.
Great job from Karl Malden and artisanal special effects more efficient than those produced by today computer technology.
