| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Boys Next Door |
THE BOYS NEXT DOOR is a movie directed by Penelope Spheeris in 1986.
Maxwell -Roy- Caulfield and Charlie -Bo- Sheen have just graduated from their little town's high school. Roy is due to begin work the following monday at a local factory but Charlie doesn't know what to do with his life. Both decide to drive to L.A. and spend a wild last week-end of liberty. As they arrive to the city of angels, Roy badly injures a gas employee under the pretext that the man has tried to swindle them with the change. Then Roy tells Bo that he feels "some stuff in his head" that drives him aggressive and violent. A few hours later, they find themselves, without having planned it, in a L.A. gay bar and finally accept the invitation of one of the clients. Roy kills the guy in cold blood as he tries to seduce them in his apartment and robs a gun hidden there. Meanwhile, the L.A. police waits for them to make a mistake. But the night is still young for Roy and Bo.
Serial killer movie or failed social study? Interesting but not an indispensable movie.
