THE STORY OF ADELE H. is a movie cowritten and directed by François Truffaut in 1975. Isabelle Adjani was nominated for the Academy Award in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category.
1863. Halifax, Canada. The daughter of the well-known French writer and politician Victor Hugo has crossed the ocean to follow the Lt. Pinson, a British officer who had seduced her in Guernesey. Persuaded that he will marry her, she's harrassing him with letters but the young officer has already forgotten Adele and is very annoyed with the unusual love of Victor Hugo's daughter. Obsessed by Pinson, she will eventually follow him in the Barbados islands and become mad with sorrow. She will spend the forty last years of her life in an mental institution in France.
