| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Obsession (1976) |
Brian De Palma cowrote the screenplay of OBSESSION with Paul Schrader and directed the movie in 1975. Music by Bernard Herrmann.
The wife and the daughter of Cliff Robertson, a real estate businessman, are kidnapped on the night of Robertson's tenth anniversary of marriage. Both die during a failed rescue attempt by the police. 15 years later, Robertson, still feeling guilty about that tragic event, falls in love in Italy with Geneviève Bujold, a young italian girl bearing a tremendous resemblance with Robertson's first wife. They return to New Orleans in order to get married. But Geneviève Bujold is also kidnapped and Robertson has a second chance to save his love. He just has to ask his business partner John Lithgow the US$ 500'000.- that will be given to the kidnappers. Lithgow hesitates.
An homage to Alfred Hitchcock's VERTIGO.
