Melvin Dummar (Le Mat), a milkman on his nightly route, picks up an old hitchhiker on the road who has gotten into a motorcycle accident. The old man (Robards) claims to be billionaire Howard Hughes, but Melvin doesn't really believe him. However, when Howard Hughes dies and Melvin gets part of the will, he becomes a nationally known figure as he tries to get his inheritance.
