| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Katie Tippel |
Katie Tippel (Keetje Tippel) is a dutch movie directed by Paul Verhoeven in 1975. Cinematography by Jan De Bont.
Late XXth century. Katie arrives from the country with her family in Amsterdam. They are very poor and Katie must accept disqualifying jobs to make some money to feed her brothers and sisters. After having been raped by her last employer, she's finally been pushed by her own mother into the world of prostitution. Soon, she meets Rutger Hauer, a bank clerk, who introduces Katie in the circles of the dutch bourgeoisie. But Katie, still aware from where she comes from, feels sympathy for the new progressist movements that are emerging in Europe. Based on a true story, recommended.
