| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Monsoon Wedding |
The upper middle-class Verma household of New Delhi is in a happy uproar four days before daughter Aditi's arranged wedding to a young Indian man who lives in Texas. Other family members are coming to the event from Australia and Muscat, and father Lalit is in a tizzy over the arrangements and expense. Wedding planner P.K. Dubey hangs out on the premises, bullying his crew and developing a serious interest in the housemaid Alice. Although there are some dangerous secrets to be uncovered, this is a mostly joyous movie about family, old traditions and new innovations (both technical and emotional), and it's got a great soundtrack. Director Mira Nair (Mississippi Masala and Salaam, Bombay!) became the first woman director to win the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival with this lively 2001 film.
